WotR Guide (WIP)
Wanderers of the Rift, or WotR for short, is an ARPG, dungeon crawler modpack for Minecraft Java Edition [1.21.4]. As one of the many rift wanderers, you must dive into rifts and discover new dimensions. Loot their resources to become stronger and fight side by side with various guilds against the hostile factions trying to take over every dimension. Establish a stronghold in a stabilised rift to keep your allies safe and automate the resources of the three large dimensions to sustain your explorations.
If something is temporary or has not been decided on by the team yet. It will be highlighted via [brackets].
The new dimensions
You can create rifts that lead to new dimensions. To enter a rift, you must weave your own rifts through the use of a [Rift Key] and a [Rift Spawner]. You can craft a [Rift Key] using a [Key Forge] by feeding it [Vanilla] items. Each item has an invisible essence value, and the tier of the rift increases with the total value of items you put into the forge. The items you supply will influence the theme of the rift you are creating. Currently, only a forest theme can be crafted using nature-themed items. Right-clicking on a [Rift Spawner] with a [Rift Key] will open a rift. Each rift leads to a procedurally generated dimension with tons of loot in the form of mob drops, chests and special encounters. Below, you can find the recipes for the [Rift Spawner] and the [Key Forge].

Theme & structure
Each rift has a tier, a theme and an objective. Themes dictate what the rift looks like and the mobs and loot you will find. Other than the theme, all rifts have a similar structure. When you enter a rift, you appear in a portal room, where you can exit the rift when you are done with the objective or have looted enough. The portal room is connected to 4 other rooms via small entrances. Rooms have a cave-like structure with many small points of interest or POIs. They contain a spawner which spews out monsters and chests to loot. If you choose to go further away from the portal room. You can find chaos or unstable rooms. These rooms don’t follow the same pattern as the rooms close to the entrance. They can have many exits and can lead to smaller rooms, and overall have a much more chaotic, labyrinth-like feeling.
Objective
Objectives provide a goal to pursue in each rift expedition. Currently, there are 2 objectives: kill mobs and stealth. The mob kill objective is a simple task to kill monsters. Each monster kill fills up a bar. When the bar fills up, you can exit the rift and receive your rewards. There is also a stealth objective.
Tier
As of the MVP, Rifts have 7 tiers. Each tier costs more resources, is more difficult, and the loot has better quality. Themes are tied to the item used to create the [Rift Key] in the [Key Forge].
Ability system
[Ability Bench]: Equipping and Upgrading abilities
Abilities came in the form of an [ability holder]; you can craft these yourself or find them in the rift. The [Ability Bench] is currently your go-to block for equipping abilities. The [Ability Bench] has 9 slots for abilities. Each of these slots can be equipped with abilities, and a keybind can be assigned to each.
You can customize each ability to your liking with a skill tree available through the [ability bench]. The node on the skill tree can provide a few possibilities, such as increased damage, more range or an additional projectile to the fireball skill. Each [ability holder] comes with a different skill tree. You can increase the level of your ability item by spending [Skill Thread].

Available abilities
As of the MVP, there are only 3 available abilities: dash, fireball and heal. These abilities can currently be found as part of the loot in rifts and have different cooldowns and mana costs, which can be affected by the skill tree related to that specific [Ability Holder]. As we continue development of the pack, we are looking to add more abilities, so if you have something in mind that you feel would be a good fit, add to the contributor ideas forum.
Dash
A simple dash move that propels you forward a bit.
Fireball
A fiery ability that fires a projectile, ending up in an explosion, scaling off ability power.
Heal
An ability that heals yourself and friends around you.
Sockets & runegems
To upgrade your equipment, you can socket different runegems into it. Each piece of gear has a different set of sockets with different shapes and numbers of sockets. Runegems can provide many different modifiers, such as an extra heart or more damage on a sword. Each gem has its own shape, and it only fits into a socket with a matching shape on the gear piece. Currently, only vanilla Minecraft gear exists in the mod. Later, we plan to implement our own gear items as well.
